Move in Closer

Looking back through old holiday photos, I found this picture of my nephew, Eli. He’s always been an all in kinda guy and this is one of my favorite memories of him. Several years ago at a night in Bethlehem experience at church, we were all wandering through the bustling city and turned and caught this sweet little moment.

As I reflect on the memory again today, I’m reminded that with the fullness of the season, it’s easy and natural in our humanity to get distracted and feel the heaviness of life.

But, there is a presence because of Jesus that provides peace beyond our understanding and our proximity to Him matters.

Often we stand back and wait to feel worthy, scramble to try to clean up our messes, and put off connecting with Him until we have time. All the while, He’s actively waiting and working for our good to bring hope and light as He longs for us to pause the wandering and come close in wonder to spend time with Him.

One thing is for sure…the holidays can magnify all the joy and even sadness too. There will be ups and downs, but if we have a place to return to be grateful when things are wonderful and to run to when things feel chaotic, it changes everything. Oh to have the childlike wonder and faith this Christmas to go all in and move up close to the manger again and again!
